# Settled, and the buyer is left holding nothing

`delivered-nothing` — an x402 defect class.

**Asserts:** A settled payment returns a non-empty body.

**Costs:** Money moved for zero bytes. Distinct from a settlement error, because the endpoint reports success.

**Detectable:** paid — only a settled payment reveals it

**Falsified by:** A non-empty response body accompanying the 2xx.

**How an operator clears it:** Produce the goods before presenting the settlement, and treat an empty body as a failed delivery that aborts the charge — deliver-first ordering makes this class impossible by construction.

**What a buyer does:** Treat an empty 2xx after settlement as a failed delivery and keep the settlement reference: it is the only evidence that you paid. Ask for a paid retry against that settlement before paying a second time.

**Our signal:** `launch_check stage: delivery`

A class describes a property of one endpoint at one moment and never accumulates into a judgment on an operator.
